Performance differences among ball mill grinding balls of various material

In general, the ball mill grinding ball performance needed to achieve good surface quality, high impact resistance, toughness, good wear resistance, and not easy to be breakage and out of circularity, and so on. The ball mill grinding balls of different material are big difference in their performance and applications. The common ball mill grinding ball mainly include low carbon alloy material, high manganese steel, high carbon high manganese steel, high-chromium alloy. Below we will introduce the performance difference of grinding ball of above materials in application.

Low carbon alloyed grinding ball has good toughness and low prices. In the same kinds of conditions, its life is 1 times more than that of low-chromium cast grinding ball.

High manganese steel ball has toughness, good technology and low price. The main feature is that its surface layer will be quickly hardening under larger impact or stress contact, the hardening exponent is 5-7 times higher than other materials, greatly improved wear resistance.

High carbon high manganese alloyed grinding ball is mainly composed by structural steel of chromium, molybdenum and other kinds of elements. It is high hardness and good toughness with matrix structure like martensite, bainite or composite tissue of bainite and martensite. Under the same operating conditions, its service life is at least doubled compare with high manganese steel ball.

High chrome alloyed casting grinding ball is produced with the mid frequency electric furnace as a main part which smelt high quality scrap,chromium alloy, micro-alloying iron in a proportion, then formed via unique metal mold or sand mold and followed high temperature quenching and tempering to get martensite matrix. High chrome ball has high hardness, low wear, good toughness, and less broken, it is an excellent wear-resistant materials.

Based on the above analysis, when the user is choosing grinding balls, the ball application requires and relevant fund must be considered in order to find the right grinding ball in best efficiency.
